ASSISTANT PAINTERS REQUIRED
FOR A NEW PUBLIC ART MURAL IN SOUTHWARK, March 2025

Art Hoppers, in partnership with Limes Walk Community Garden and Southwark Council, is delivering a large-scale, public art mural on the side wall of a Victorian terrace located at 58 Linden Grove in Southwark.

The mural, designed by Claire Ward-Thornton, is informed by community workshops with local residents and aims to celebrate the community spirit of the garden project, a love of nature and the value of green spaces in the urban environment.

The project is funded by a Cleaner Greener Safer grant from Southwark Council.

*Assistant painters must be comfortable with working at height on a scaffold. All will be required to complete an accredited online training course ‘Working at Height’ in their own time (approx 2hrs) and attend a ‘Safety + Methodology Briefing’ on-site before commencing work. Please note: Training will not be paid.

  • 5 & 6 March – Student interviews (online)
  • 18- 28 March – Mural painting application

Painting will be in 4hr shifts am & pm – (rota to be agreed)

Pay rate LLW: £13.85 p.hr

About Claire:

Claire Ward-Thornton is the founder and lead art educator of Art Hoppers. Established in 2012 as a London-based art education organisation, Claire has worked in partnership with the education sector and a diversity of community groups across public and cultural spaces involving children, young people, families and adults of varying needs, ages and backgrounds.

Claire has a BA (Hons) Fine Art Degree and a background in scenic painting for TV, film and theatre. Throughout her professional career Claire has produced large-scale murals in public and private spaces for local government, business, schools and cultural venues.

The experience of designing and delivering art education projects for children, families and adults has informed Claire’s practice. Social engagement is at the heart of her planning and ideas.
