Speaking in Shapes

Ask a friend a question and look out for the first thing they do… Do they look up at the sky, make a facial expression or move their hands? Body language is the secret code to communication which gives us clues into how a person is thinking and feeling.

Join us for ‘Speaking in shapes’ a fun, family art session which invites visitors to take the best bits of their body language and make quirky, puppet caricatures of themselves, family or friends. Are you all about the hand gestures? Do you nod your head without realising? Maybe you jump up and down when you laugh? Enjoy getting to know what your body has to say.

‘Speaking in Shapes’ is a family event led by Art Hoppers in partnership with Rich Mix. The activity invites visitors to draw, cut, make and build cardbaord caricature puppets with quirky moveable parts. Think clunky cardboard, wire model armatures which wobble and move… Visitors are welcome to take their creations home with them once completed. All materials will be provided – Expect, cardbaord, paper, wire, paint sticks, markers and a range of attachments.

We’re part of the ‘In the neighbourhood’ programme at All Points East festival – Rich Mix are delivering a full day of arts activities as part of their PLAYHOUSE Spring Festival at All Points East.

ALL POINTS EAST Festival is a fabulous community event running over two weekends in May, in Victoria Park. Our contribution ‘Speaking in Shapes’ is a 2hr drop-in activity happening on Spring Bank Holiday Mon 27th May 2019, 11am – 1pm, in the Rich Mix / Playhouse tent. Find us ‘In The Neighbourhood’ zone.
