Spark Life

Exhibition inspired by Springfield Park by Grasshoppers children

Our weekly art sessions at Grasshoppers in the Park nursery, include children aged between 2-5 years. In each session we accomodate approximately 18 children. Following the success of our project is that an Octopus? in the Summer of 2012, we set out to create a new, public exhibition showcasing the creative talents of the children, this time inspired by our local park. When spring 2013 began slowly to stir, the art class decamped to Springfield park for a fresh look at the wonderful surroundings they enjoy so much on their daily walks as part of the nursery’s educational programme.

For this project we wanted to focus on the children’s drawing skills, often asking them to work from observation, as well as from their imagination. We used chunky markers, encouraging attention to shape and form and their graphic illustrations, composed of beautiful, confident lines blew us away! Taking themes of nature, wildlife, picnics and life on the River Lea, the children’s creativity bloomed into Spark Life with drawings, collage and beautiful window vinyls which the cafe decided to keep!

Integral to the project, we led a free family event to launch the exhibition opening. Visitors were invited to make their own flying duck from cardboard and mount it on a stick.

The exhibition took place from May – September 2013 at Spark Cafe, Springfield Park, (off Upper Clapton Road), London E5 9EF
