Mural designed by Jean Jullien
On the street side of the ‘Hackney School of Food’, you will find this mural designed by the fabulous french illustrator and graphic designer Jean Jullien, known for the Paris Peace symbol following the 2015 attack. We love the design which makes the most of the large window in the building turning this into an oven door.
In the picture (left) you can see Art Hopper’s Claire WT who led the painting of the mural with support from Bianca and Kaltum, both teachers from Mandeville School, the grounds in which the project is located. The painting took one week to complete in a hot June 2020, applied with a high quality, water based masonary paint. The design was gridded up onto the wall, drawn out with chalk and painted.
‘Hackney School of Food’ is a brilliant initiative based at Mandeville Primary School, part of the LEAP Federation. It’s teaching children how to cook, nurture their environment and enjoy a nutritious diet of fresh produce. The school includes a professional kitchen, a wood fired pizza oven, a bee hive, vegetable gardens, an orchard and kitchen garden. To find out more about the project visit here.
