Hackney School of Food (HSOF) contacted me to design a mural for their early years garden, an area where nursery children come to explore the life within the garden through it’s colours, textures, flavours and miniature inhabitants.

The mural depicts a Climbing French Bean showing its life cycle and the characteristics of growth from flower to pod. Text alongside the painting provides cues and language for learning which prompt curiosity and conversation for visiting classrooms.

HSOF is a green haven and educational space within the grounds of Mandeville Primary School in Hackney. The project involves a professional quality kitchen for children, trainee chefs and the local communtiy to learn how to cook and a beautiful garden with vegetable produce, herbs and botanicals to fuel an appetite for knowledge in food sources and nutrition.
