Blossom

Cherry Blossom Mural

Dimensions: w:154cm x h:252cm

Painted with Bedec MSP, water based paint

This was a lovely commission which came from a private client who requested a hand painted mural of cherry blossom for her daughters bedroom. The design was to fill the chimney breast of this south facing room, part of a period property within a conservation area in Hackney.

What made this project unique?

The daughter is a keen artist. The project had the added excitement of being her first private space after previously sharing a bedroom with her sibling. She wanted to have a hand in her bedroom redesign and experience painting on a larger scale so we agreed to work together in painting the mural.  Once we gridded up the design, we drew out the shape of the tree and together began applying the under layers of paint to define the shape of the blossom.

It was fun sharing ideas on colours and paint application. I loved the process of working together with one of my school students. Besides being an extension of my work in art education it was a very special opportunity to get to know the interests and skills of a young artist on a personal level.

I’m sure you’ll agree the result sprung into life beautifully and perfectly symbolises new beginnings for her years ahead.
