Gayhurst Summer Play scheme
Surreal times call for surreal art!
Last week (July 2020) we ran a week long art and well-being play scheme at Gayhurst School for a group of yr 3&4 children which began with making social distancing costumes from recycled household materials.
As the days went on, great fun was had creating a giant paint splodge and a collection of smaller mirrored gems which opened the door to conversations around what we could see in the markings and the feelings they evoked…
Surreal collage characters showed quirky and playful expressions of identity. Clay, beaded masks inspired by our ‘Guilds of Benin‘ exhibition in our #TAG (The Art Gallery) space were a therapeutic make… And the final sprint involved meddling with recycled plastic bottles, plaster-of-paris bandages and gold spray to design trophy’s inspired by Serena William’s 7 Wimbledon wins.
