Addressing interior and graphic design within an architectural setting, the project promises adventure and discovery within the context of children’s learning experiences and their physical awareness of their environment.
Spaces within Mandeville school (internal and external) will be brought to life through the installation of various, micro design features based on the creative contributions of pupils. These installations will instil excitement and aspirational values through both the cosmetic enhancement of space and the transformative qualities of design.
The project will shine a light on the school and reinforce that Mandeville is a school committed to children’s creativity and innovation. A school which families can be proud to be a part of.

What's Design?
Design is the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object, system or measurable human interaction (as in architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, business processes, circuit diagrams, and sewing patterns).
Design has different connotations in different fields. In some cases, the direct construction of an object is also considered to use design thinking.
Designing often necessitates considering the aesthetic, functional, economic, and sociopolitical dimensions of both the design object and design process. It may involve considerable research, thought, modelling, interactive adjustment, and re-design.
Thus “design” may be a substantive referring to a categorical abstraction of a created thing or things (the design of something), or a verb for the process of creation as is made clear by grammatical context. It is an act of creativity and innovation.

QUESTIONS / CONSIDERATIONS
We should consider when families are able to visit the exhibition as we’ll need to promote these times in the leaflet i.e. Famlies are welcome to take the exhibition trail between 3.30 – 5.00pm on school days – Would this work?
In addition, Could we invite families to start the trail by entering the blue stairwell via the external glass doors (the entrance which will be redesigned)? This will allow families to go to the top of the stairs where the trail starts without seeing the panels on the ground floor first… How practical is this? – Can reception staff ‘buzz’ them in?
Some of the artworks will be 3D and mounted on shelves, they are easily knocked. Can we encourage children to stay clear of the panels when queing up to class? We discussed the idea of putting markings on the floor – Shall we consider this later if needed?
Finally, how much can I ask of Colin? Could I ask him to cut some shelves for example? I don’t want to abuse his time… Just keen to be clear with this. THANK YOU!
PUBLICITY CONTENT
I will write proposed text for the publicity for proof reading prior to printing. As the leaflet will be used for the academic year, we need to think through all aspects of running the project now – Opening dates for all three exhibitions – Are we happy to commit to these?
