This is one of the reasons we love what we do… We get to work with material like this. Fernbank Community Centre commissioned us to design a wallpaper for their nursery dining room using the drawings of their young inhabitants. We started with a session on mark making – Big 2m square pieces of paper on the floor, paint brushes dipped in ink, attached to the end of long willow sticks… brilliant fun! Or, lying on the floor with arms out stretched, drawing circles with chunky marker pens. The results gave us expressive marks with texture and speed!
In a second art session, we created observational drawings of birds, bees, butterflies and bugs from photos. The children had a great time making BEAUTIFUL characters drawing a simple outline in marker pen and colouring with one of our fav’s: paint sticks. These characters make designing the wallpaper SUCH A JOY! The characters bring the design to life, they are inherently cute, charming and playful and somehow directly reflect the personality of the child.
Here’s a sneak peak of a rough sample of our design in progress… More soon.
