Dalston Portrait Collective
Dalston PORTRAIT Collective wants to capture the face of Dalston as seen and illustrated by the people who inhabit it. We’re gathering a giant scrapbook of hand-drawn portraits by parents, teens & kiddo’s for inclusion in a collective, public artwork, designed and printed for the windows of Dalston CLR James Library.
Who can take part?
You don’t need to be an artist to take part! We’re inviting local families to take part by drawing each other’s portrait. You don’t need to live in Dalston to participate, you just need to turn up and create your drawing at one of our events in Dalston > > >
When can we participate?
During three public events where we’ll be anticipating your arrival to our public drawing table. Armed with pencils, pens, charcoal and paper we’ll have plenty of materials for you to illustrate the friendly faces in your life. Come with friends and family if you’d like to draw a portrait of someone you’re already familiar with!
What happens next?
Once you’ve offered your drawings to the project, it’s our turn to work on the design. The portraits will be gathered up and a selection will be chosen to illustrate the character and community spirit of Dalston in an expressive and playful way. We’re keen to show as many different faces as possible representing a mix of ages and abilities from the teeny tiny to the seasoned hand!
When can we see the result?
The final design will be a fun, collective, community artwork, printed on vinyls and installed on the windows of Dalston CLR James library. You’ll be able to see and enjoy this new public artwork soon. Dates TBC. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we’ll keep you informed…
All Activities: Materials are provided at our public events and FREE to attend.
Note: Artworks can only be accepted from participants who attend our events.
We have a fabulous collection of drawings from all those who attended our three events last year. We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who contributed with their drawings. We would also like to reassure you that these are being placed into a mural design, a little later than planned, but we are indeed working on this and very much looking forward to seeing the finished result on display in our local library in Dalston. Watch this space – our community of happy faces will be ready to greet you very soon. Any queries about the project, please do send us a line
