Art in the Park

Art in the Park was one of our early public art projects. Commisisoned firstly by Spark cafe in Springfreld Park, Hackney and later by Lakeside cafe at Ally Pally. The goal was to offer a series of monthly art sessions for families to enjoy on Sunday mornings in the comfort of their local park cafe, surrounded by these two beautiful green spaces. The invitation to families was:

  • Get busy making your own wild and wonderful creations
  • Enjoy quality time together as a family
  • Enjoy a visit to the beautiful surroundings of your local park

The art sessions were free to attend and worked much like a drop-in activity. All materials and equipment were provided by us, so all willing participants had to do was to turn up and get happy making. Here’s the programme we offered in each venue:

Spark Cafe in Springfield Park (Sept 2013 – Jan 2014)

Get Chalky – giant floor mural
Organic plant it – exotic plant sculptures
Kite Making – transforming plastic bags into kites
Hey Spud! – characters made from locally sourced veg
Portraits – free drawing activity and lo-fi framing

Lakeside cafe in Alexandra Park (Oct 2014 – Feb 2015)

Kite Making – transforming plastic bags into kites
Wire portraits – model a 2d shape of your face with wire
Pom Pom! – make and decorate tissue pom poms
Norway Inspired – make stickers, cards, posters inspired by Norwegian design
Paper bag fashion – transform a large paper sac into a fancy costume
